【 摘 要 】

Inevolutionaryecology,environmentalmonitoringandconservationmanagement,reliableinformationonphenotypicanddemographictraitsinmarineseabirdsishighlywanted,butdifficulttoacquire.Therefore,freshlydeadCommonGuillemotsUriaaalge(n=149)incidentallydrownedinsalmondriftgillnetsintheBalticSea,duringOctober—November,werestudied.Wenotedage,sex,moultpatternandfatstatus,andtookmorphometricmeasurementstocomparewithdatafromtheNortheastAtlanticpopulation.Onlyminorphenotypicdifferenceswerefound.Thebirdshadslightlylongerwingsthanexpectedatthelatitudewheretheywerecollected,probablyduetotheirnewlygrownprimariesand/orobserverdifferences,ratherthanageneticdivergence.TheBalticGuillemotappearsnottobeadistinctsubspecies,butonlythemarginalmemberofademe.RingingrecoveriesalsosuggestintermittentexchangeofbirdsbetweentheBalticandtheNorthSea.Youngbirdsdidnotseemtobeover-representedingillnetbycatches.Ourfoundagedistribution—withaheavydominanceofadultbirds,butfewimmature/juveniles—deviatedfromthatreportedearlier,andsuggeststhatthepopulationismorevulnerabletoadultmortalitythroughbycatchingillnetsthanpreviouslybelieved.
