【 摘 要 】

Introductory programming subjects continue to challenge both the instructors and their students. A novice programmer’s programming experience is often obstructed by syntax errors that are to be handled instantaneously so that one can continue writing a working program. However, this is not an easy task for those who are just beginning to learn how to program. This study focuses on finding a way of measuring novice programmers’ comprehension of their introductory programming subject. It looks into students’ compilation behaviors as they author their codes using the C++ programming language by analyzing automatically collected online protocols.
