【 摘 要 】
Two experimental approaches have been used to investigate possible interactions of methimazole with hydroxyl (OH) and iodine (I2 −) free radicals. Methimazole protects sensitive enzymes against inactivation caused by OH and I2 − Pulse radiolysis reveals the presence of transient absorbing species formed as a result of the direct interaction between methimazole and these free radicals. Measurements of the absolute rate constants indicate that these reactions proceed very rapidly at very low drug concentrations. These experiments provide direct evidence that methimazole is a potent scavenger of OH and I2 − and they provide a possible explanation for the previously observed effects of this drug.
