DespiteHAART,patientsinfectedwithHIVdevelopNHLatasignificantlyhigherlevelthanthenoninfectedpopulation.Theprimarydifferencebetweenlymphomainnon‐HIV‐infectedindividualsandthosewithARListhatARLisconsistentlyhigh‐gradeandmetastatic.TheemergenceofARLisassociatedwiththepresenceofmacrophageviralreservoirs,similartowhathasbeenobservedforHAD.HIV‐infectedmacrophages,asseenbyhistologyandHIVp24staining,arepresentinapproximatelyhalfofARLs.Macrophagereservoirsrecruitadditionalimmunecells,includingmonocytes/macrophages,throughthereleaseofchemoattractants.Additionally,TAMareknowntopromotetumorprogressionformostcancertypes,includinglymphomas.ThisreviewwillhighlightanddiscusstheroleofmacrophageviralreservoirsinthedevelopmentandprogressionofARLsandhopefully,shedlightonthisnewandinterestingfield...
