ThepentraxinSAPreducesneutrophiladhesiontoECMproteins,inhibitsthedifferentiationofmonocytesintofibrocytes,attenuatesprofibroticmacrophages,activatesthecomplementpathway,andpromotesphagocytosisofcelldebris.Together,theseeffectsofSAPregulatekeyaspectsofinflammationandsetathresholdforimmunecellactivation.Here,wepresentareviewofSAPbiologywithanemphasisonSAPreceptorinteractionsandhowtheeffectofSAPonmonocytesandmacrophageshasbeenexploredtodevelopthisproteinasatherapeuticforrenalandlunginjuries.WealsodiscusshowthereremainmanyunansweredquestionsabouttheroleofSAPininnateimmunity...
