Aclearunderstandingofimmunityinindividualsinfectedwithinfluenzavirusiscriticalforthedesignofeffectivevaccinationandtreatmentstrategies.Whereasmyriadstudieshaveteasedapartinnateandadaptiveimmuneresponsestoinfluenzainfectioninmurinemodels,muchlessisknownabouthumanimmunityasaresultoftheethicalandtechnicalconstraintsofhumanresearch.Still,thesemurinestudieshaveprovidedimportantinsightsintothecriticalcorrelatesofprotectionandpathogenicityinhumaninfectionandhelpeddirectthehumanstudiesthathavebeenconducted.Here,weexamineandreviewthecurrentliteratureonimmunityinhumansinfectedwithinfluenzavirus,notingevidenceofferedbyselectmurinestudiesandsuggestingdirectionsinwhichfutureresearchismostwarranted...
