【 摘 要 】
Background:Heart failure (HF) contributes significantly to the morbidity and mortality of the ageing population and is one of the leading causes of re-hospitalization in Singapore. Studies have shown that patient education covering HF and self-care management can lead to greater compliance with treatment regimens, resulting in lower re-hospitalization rates. This study aimed to measure HF patients’ knowledge on the disease and self-care management, and to explore factors influencing their knowledge level.Methods:A questionnaire adapted from the Dutch Heart Failure Knowledge Scale (DHFKS) was completed by 187 patients who were recruited from a tertiary center’s outpatient HF clinic. Data from the survey were analyzed using SPSS (version 22).Results:Knowledge of HF in general had the highest score and that of HF symptoms/recognition of HF symptoms the lowest.
