【 摘 要 】

The aqueous methanolic extract ofPaspalidium flavidumwas evaluated for its effect on Central Nervous System (CNS) in mice. The CNS effects of crude extract were studied by forced swimming test, tail suspension test, tail flick test and Phenobarbitone induced sleeping time. The crude extract exhibited a significant (P<0.001) decrease in immobility time when tested in force swimming and tail suspension tests. In tail flick test, a prominent analgesic effect was observed. The crude extract also produced a significant decrease in sleep latency and an increase in sleep duration. The median lethal dose (LD50) of the aqueous methanolic extract ofP. flavidumwas found to be 1750 mg/kg in mice. It was concluded thatP. flavidumcontained certain bioactive compounds that might be involved in analgesic, antidepressant and sedative effects of plant extract.
