Krüppel‐likefactor4isazincfingerproteinwithdualfunctionsthatcanactasatranscriptionalactivatorandrepressorofgenesinvolvedincellproliferation,differentiation,andapoptosis.Althoughmoststudieshavefocusedonterminallydifferentiatedepithelialcells,evidencesuggeststhatKrüppel‐likefactor4regulatesthedevelopmentandfunctionofthemyeloidandlymphoidbloodlineages.TheabilityofKrüppel‐likefactor4todedifferentiatefromsomaticcellsintopluripotentstemcellsincooperationwithotherreprogrammingfactorssuggestsitspotentialfunctioninthepreservationoftissue‐specificstemcells.Additionally,emerginginterestintheredifferentiationofinducedpluripotentstemcellsintobloodcellstocorrecthematologicdeficienciesandmalignancieswarrantsfurtherstudiesontheroleofKrüppel‐likefactor4insteady‐statebloodformation...
