Dietaryoliveoilsupplementationandmorerecently,oliveoilphenolshavebeenrecommendedasimportanttherapeuticinterventionsinpreventivemedicine.Olehasseveralpharmacologicalproperties,includingantioxidant,anti‐inflammatory,antiatherogenic,anticancer,antimicrobial,andantiviralandforthesereasons,isbecominganimportantsubjectofstudyinrecentyears.TheaimofthisstudywastoinvestigatetheeffectsofOleaglyconeonthemodulationofthesecondaryeventsinmicesubjectedtointestinalIRI.Thiswasinducedinmicebyclampingthesuperiormesentericarteryandtheceliactrunkfor30min,followedbyreleaseoftheclamp,allowingreperfusionfor1h.After60minofreperfusion,animalswerekilledforhistologicalexaminationoftheileumtissueandimmunohistochemicallocalizationofproinflammatorycytokines(TNF‐αandIL‐1β)andadhesionmolecules(ICAM‐1andP‐sel);moreover,byWesternblotanalysis,weinvestigatedtheactivationofNF‐κBandIκBα.Inaddition,weevaluatedtheapoptosisprocess,asshownbyTUNELstainingandBax/Bcl‐2expressions.TheresultsobtainedbythehistologicalandmolecularexaminationsshowedinOleaglycone‐treatedmice,adecreaseofinflammationandapoptosispathwayversusSAO‐shockedmice.Inconclusion,weproposethattheoliveoilcompounds,inparticular,theOleaglycone,couldrepresentapossibletreatmentagainstsecondaryeventsofintestinalIRI...
