【 摘 要 】
The author explores a recent phenomenon that is gaining popularity in Poland and causes alarm amongst conservation professionals, namely a series of initiatives undertaken to enhance the attractiveness of architectural monuments to meet the needs of cultural tourism. The ensuing challenges relate to the erosion of cultural significance caused by alterations to the fabric made also tangible changes in attitudes and behavior of local communities. So far, the effects of these policies are debatable to say the least. The issue is discussed using three case studies - ruined castles forming part of the medieval fortification defense system of the area of Jura Krakowsko-Czstochowska in southern Poland. The analysis of these case studies leads the author to present her own model of changes that can minimize loss to monuments' heritage value and significance.
