Preface
Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases remain huge global health problems especially in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. Moreover, climate change and million people travelling across the globe lead to higher risk in infectious diseases. The world indeed faces those challenges, thus, we are urged to improve and update our knowledge and skill, as well as to collaborate with colleagues from another fields.
The 1st International Conference on Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease (ICTROMI), which was held by Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sumatera Utara in Medan, Indonesia, from 15th-18th November 2017, encompassed all of the fields in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases with special attention being paid to latest diagnostics and management to social and environment impact. In conjunction with this International Conference, two scientific events also took part: The Indonesian Society of Tropical and Infectious Diseases Consultant (ISTIC), one of the leading subspecialty associations in Indonesia, conducted its 23rd National Congress, while the Department of Internal Medicine as the part of Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, with its 18th Annual Meeting, presented recent updates from various subspecialty topics.
