【 摘 要 】

This thesis consists of a full length play titled Made In China and an accompanying critical analysis. Made In China is the story of two opposing forces clashing within a moral dilemma. Quingshan and his wife, who live in China, have had a second baby. They have no money to pay a government fine and must find a new home for their child before the authorities discover their secret. They seize their opportunity when Anthony and Hazel arrive from England to source fur for a new fashion item. In a world where fur is hard to come by Quingshan tells them he can help them acquire the fur if they take his child. An agreement is made between the protagonists. However when Anthony witnesses the reality of the fur trade, he changes his mind and the fate of baby Lei becomes uncertain. Made In China explores the cruelty of the Chinese fur trade, and the necessity of it, cushioned within the debate of China’s one child policy and the culture clashes of parenting.
