【 摘 要 】

This thesis explores the effects of modifying the relative energy of specific plosive acoustic features on their recognition scores. A range of signal-to-noise ratios were used, following the attenuation and amplification of the bursts characteristic of the consonants /t,k,d,g/, in the context of the vowel /A/. Results show that modifications to the burst change the scores proportionally to the modification. The increase or decrease in scores is measured by calculating the lateral shift of the score along the SNR axis. The average change in scores of the amplified sounds is the same as that of the attenuated sounds, but opposite in sign. The high correlation in this task verifies the importance of the modified region to the relevant target consonant. Removing the primary feature allows redundant, secondary and conflicting features to play greater roles in perception.
