This study was undertaken to investigate the development of children's torque generating capacities in maximal limb movements performed at a range of angular velocities. To be able to obtain meaningful information from this investigation the answers to five specific questions were sought: 1. what is the relationship between the peak torque and velocity for the subjects? 2. what effect does age have on the peak torque scores? 3. to what extent do commonly used parameters of growth i. e. age and measures of body size, explain the variation in peak torque scores? 4. are there any sex differences in (a) peak torque scores? (b) body size measurements? 5. is it possible to obtain PT scores representative of the subject's maximum voluntary effort?
