【 摘 要 】

This thesis consists of a critical edition of Asma' Rijal al-Masabih, by Mahmud b. Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Farisi (fl. 764 A. H. ), a work dealing with the names of the transmitters, and others, that occur in Masabih al-Sunnah, by Abu Muhammad Husayn b. Mas'ud al-Baghawi (d. 516 A. H. ). The edition has been made from a photocopy of a unique MS, formerly in the possession of Khalil al-Rahman Dawudi of Lahore, and now inaccessible somewhere in Saudi Arabia. The text has been annotated as fully as possible and compared with the sources on which al-Farisi drew.
