In the early 1920;;s, Ernest Hemingway was in the process of developing his style as a writer before he published his first work, In Our Time, in 1924, and his visit to turkey and the dispatches he wrote for the Toronto Star during this period had a significant impact on the formation of the style which has been regarded as characteristic of his writing. Through an analysis of his original dispatches and a synopsis of Turkey;;s historical and political context when Hemingway arrived in the country, this study aims to demonstrate the deep impression that Hemingway;;s visit to Turkey left on him as a writer, hence the contribution of his experiences in the Near East on his short stories. It is also amongst this paper;;s goals to compile what constitutes the ;;little scholarly discussion;; regarding his Near East duty for further references and research in its aim to indicate that his Turkish experience marks the beginning of his transition from journalism to a masterful authorship.
