【 摘 要 】
Modernchildrenareplaguedwithstrugglesthatwereunheardofdecadesago.Duetobusylifestylesandlimitlessuseoftechnology,thesocial-­‐emotionalandphysicalwell-­‐beingofchildrenisatstake.Childrentodayhaveincreasedattentionproblems,anxiety,andalackofself-­‐regulationandself-­‐awareness.Mindfulnessisthepracticeofsittingstillandsilent,focusingattentioninward.Mindfulpracticescultivatepeaceandcalmwithinthechild,betterequippinghim/hertohandlethestressorsoflife.TheimplementationofasilenceareaintoaMontessorienvironmentfacilitatesthesepracticesbyprovidingchildrenwithaspacedevotedtobeingstillandsilent.Thisactionresearchstudysurroundstheimplementationofasilenceareaasameanstobenefitthesocial-­‐emotionalbehaviorofstudents.Thestudents’useoftheareawasrecordedeachday.Behaviordatawasgatheredtoobservetheimpactthesilenceareahadonthestudents.Thefindingsshowedadecreaseintheamountofbehaviorthatrequiredredirection.Parentsurveyswerealsoconductedtogatherdataandobservationsofstudentbehaviorathome.Thosesurveyresultssuggestedanincreaseinself-­‐awarenessandself-­‐regulationasobservedbytheparents.Overall,theresultsofthisstudyhaveshownthatregularuseofthesilenceareanotonlyprovidesstudentswithmomentsofsolitude,butalsobenefitstheirsocial-­‐emotionaldevelopmentthroughgainsofself-­‐regulationandself-­‐awareness.Althoughmoreresearchonthetopicof;;mindfulnessandchildren”isemerging,researchconcurswiththesefindingsandtheirpromisingeffects.
