【 摘 要 】
The problem of assessing a person's knowledge, abilities andqualities is very old. Dramatic developments have createdunprecedented demands that complicate the problem of evaluation.Contemporary methods of testing and measurement absolutiseman in the intricate socio-economic framework.Technocratic principles are inclined to dominate the educationalpattern. These together with a positivistic approachto education have led to superficial life values. Conceptslike freedom and authority have been superseded by such conceptsas permissiveness and liberalism.Increased commercial demands have placed emphasis on manpowerproductivity and retention ability. Tests and measurementshave consequently adapted to these demands to such anextent that approximately 90% of tests today show no internalisationof the knowledge taught at school. Man is absolutisedas the sum total of his achievements as reflectedby his examination results. The principle of totality ineducation is negated owing to the obsession with examinationresults. It has become vital for the teacher to reflect and showconcern about his task, not only as a teacher but as evaluatorin the development of the child. A Christian life and worldview is crucial to equip every child thoroughly furnishedunto all good works. (II Tim. 3:17) Garnering factualknowledge is not a final requirement. Although testing andmeasurement are essential during the teaching act, evaluatingthe qualities, norms and spiritual awakening takes precedencein the total mental and physical configuration of the child. The Christian teacher must inculcate Christian values in theimpaired child or procreate the Christian values already instilledby Christian parents. His educational objective isadjusted to the Scriptural view of the origin, nature andultimate destination of man. He steps in when necessary toreconstitute man's relation with God, his neighbour and theworld. He is primarily the evaluator of the nascent adultcreated in the image of God.
