【 摘 要 】

Carried by the flow of water, this thesis is a journey intorediscovering the power of the River to animate and give reasonto urban life. Its purpose is to create an alternate reality that bringspeople back to the primal uses of the River; a nomadic space capableof affecting both one’s world, and their perceptions of it. By doing so,it is possible to escape from the chaos of urbanity, and move along theriverbanks to connect different realities. Water becomes a companionthat leads us along this path. This research examines the Seine River system in particular. It runsfrom the core of France to the ocean, shaping a valley that links a socio-cultural and economic corridor with the rest of the world. More locally,my focus is on where the Seine flows past the metropolis of Paris, oneof the world’s most influential cities and popular tourist destinations.I develop a floating public space which serves as a metaphorical cathedralof the Seine extending from the bowels of the city through the sewersand onto the bed of the river: a flowing space to gather and worshipthe force of the water. Taking shape as vapor or liquid, water can be calmor rough; friend or enemy. From wastewater to fresh water, from dirty toclean water is the protagonist of this journey.
