【 摘 要 】

The objective of this volume is todocument the patterns of business regulation across theworld and review their impact on aggregate economicperformance. The volume adopts a comparative cross-regionalperspective, with particular attention to Latin America. Theresearch reported here focuses on establishing theanalytical and empirical links between microeconomicregulatory policies on the one hand, and aggregateproductivity, growth, and volatility on the other. Thus, thevolume adds to a novel but increasingly influential line ofpolicy-relevant research that seeks to understandmacroeconomic phenomena from a microeconomic perspective.Such literature is still fairly scarce in the case ofindustrial countries, and virtually in its infancy fordeveloping countries. To achieve this end, the volumecombines a variety of methodological approaches-analyticaland empirical, micro and macroeconomic, single- andcross-country-to an extent limited mainly by theavailability of suitable data. Following this overview, thevolume comprises six chapters that address the subject fromdifferent but complementary perspectives, providing acomprehensive exploration of the various channels throughwhich business regulation affects growth, stability, andother key macroeconomic dimensions.
