【 摘 要 】
In countries such as Georgia, the risksof climate change for the agricultural sector are aparticularly immediate and important problem because themajority of the rural population depends either directly orindirectly on agriculture for their livelihoods. The mosteffective plans for adapting the sector to climate changewill involve both human capital and physical capitalenhancements; however, many of these investments can alsoenhance agricultural productivity right now, under currentclimate conditions. Recommendations, such as improving theaccessibility to farmers of agriculturally relevant weatherforecasts, will yield benefits as soon as they areimplemented and provide a means for farmers to autonomouslyadapt their practices as climate changes. In response tothese challenges, the World Bank and the Government ofGeorgia embarked on a joint study to identify and prioritizeoptions for climate change adaptation of the agriculturalsector, with explicit consideration of greenhouse gasemission reduction potential of these options. The study wasconducted in three stages: awareness raising; quantitativeand qualitative analysis; and finalization of the analysisand menu of adaptation options. This report provides a menuof options for climate change adaptation in the agriculturaland water resources sectors, along with specific recommendedactions that are tailored to distinct agricultural regionswithin Georgia. This report provides a summary of themethods, data, results, and recommendations for each ofthese activities, which were reviewed by local counterpartsat the October 8, 2012, national dissemination and consensusbuilding conference.
