【 摘 要 】

The Annual Bank Conference onDevelopment Economics (ABCDE) brings fresh, innovativeperspectives to key problems of development. By providing aforum in which policy makers, academics and leadingresearchers focus on a common theme, ABCDE plays animportant role in advancing debate and shaping theinternational development agenda. The 2009 ABCDE held June9-11, 2008, in Cape Town, South Africa, was devoted to'people, politics, and globalization.' The programincluded a strong dose of empirical research on theexperience of developing countries in all regions of theglobe. Speakers addressed such subjects as trade andinvestment, higher education and high-technology industry,migration and remittances, the interaction between healthand economic development, and the political economy ofpublic expenditures.
