The report lays out options to usesocial safety nets to meet the goal set by the Government ofBotswana to eradicate extreme poverty by 2016 and in abudget neutral way. Introducing a Family Support Grant isargued to be a more efficient way to address absolutepoverty by offering a family benefit to all the families inabsolute poverty. Reforms in the Ipelegeng public worksprogram would allow addressing existing shortcomingsassociated with coverage, targeting, generosity, and wronglabor incentives. The combination of the above will allowfor a better weaving of the Social Safety Nets to ensurethat the goal of lifting 16% of population from absolutepoverty by 2016 is achieved.
