【 摘 要 】
There are four main messages that emergefrom this book. First, no matter how authors look at theissue, remittances are extremely important in the LatinAmerican context. With remittances estimated to have toppedmore than US$50 billion in 2006, Latin America is now themain destination of these flows. Second, remittancesgenerate a number of important positive contributions toeconomic development. In particular, they tend to reducepoverty and inequality in recipient countries, as well asincrease aggregate investment and growth. Third, even thoughremittances have a positive impact on the developmentindicators of the recipient economies, the magnitude of theestimated changes tends to be modest. Fourth, policy makersmay take actions to enhance the development impact ofremittances. One important message of this book is that theway countries benefit from remittances appears to bepositively related to the countries' own institutionaland macroeconomic environments.
