【 摘 要 】
The dialogue initiated at Lambeth --continued at a second meeting of faith and developmentleaders in November 1999 and then at the third meeting inCanterbury, on which this booklet is based -- has endeavoredto bridge these gaps. Organizers of the Canterbury meetingdocumented some case studies of partnerships between faithand development institutions, summarized in this booklet, asbackground for the gathering. These cases, many of which hadpreviously been only partially documented, reveal adiversity of experience across countries, regions, andsectors on which to build. The Canterbury meeting sought tomove beyond dialogue to ideas for specific jointfaith-development initiatives and programs. The MillenniumDevelopment Goals -- which represent a new globaldetermination to mobilize energy, passion, and resources tofulfill tangible, measurable imperatives for human healthand well-being-served as a springboard for discussion andprovide a framework for future partnerships. The goals arestraightforward: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;achieve universal primary education; promote gender equalityand empower women; reduce child mortality; improve maternalhealth; combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases; ensureenvironmental sustainability; and develop a globalpartnership for development. Global leaders and institutionssuch as the World Bank are committed to judging theirperformance against these goals.
