【 摘 要 】
In many developing countries, consumption of animal source foods among the poor is stillat a level where increasing its share in total caloricintake may have many positive nutritional benefits. Thispaper explores whether ownership of various livestockspecies increases consumption of animal source foods andhelps improve child nutritional status. The paper finds someevidence that food consumption patterns and nutritionaloutcomes may be affected by livestock ownership in ruralUganda. The results are suggestive that promoting (small)livestock ownership has the potential to affect humannutrition in rural Uganda, but further research is needed toestimate more precisely the direction and size of these effects.
