【 摘 要 】
Following the 1998 financial crisis,four out of every ten people slipped into poverty, not ableto meet basic needs. Luckily, post-crisis economic reboundwas impressive and broad-based, albeit uneven across sectorsand regions. This title explores the nature of poverty, bothnationally and regionally, to identify the groups with ahigh poverty risk. It then examines growth-poverty linkagesthrough the labor market, as well as the contribution ofgrowth and inequality to the recent poverty reduction. Italso considers the expected impact of WTO accession onoverall growth and poverty. Finally, it focuses on the scopefor improving social policy in ways that will have a directimpact on the poor.
