【 摘 要 】

This study evaluates a community-basedrandomized controlled trial (RCT) to determine the impact ofan information campaign on learning and other schooloutcomes. The study was conducted in three Indian states,Uttar Pradesh (UP), Madhya Pradesh (MP), and Karnataka. UPand MP are two large north and central Indian states,respectively, and lag behind in economic and socialoutcomes, while Karnataka in southern India is economicallyand socially more developed. Even though all three stateshave devolved oversight roles to the community with respectto government schools, they differ in the extent to whichsuch devolution has taken place. The information campaigndisseminated state specific information to the community onits oversight roles in schools and education services thatparents are entitled to. Information was disseminated in11-14 public meetings in each treatment village over aperiod of two and a half years.
