The Government of Tanzania has, inrecent years, focused on revitalizing its mining sector inorder to attract foreign investment, with the goal ofraising its contribution to Tanzania's Gross DomesticProduct. With the support from the World Bank through theMineral Sector Development Project (MSDP), the legal andfiscal regimes were revised and an environmental frameworkwas put in place. As the growth of the small scale miningsub-sector continues, so do the challenges. This Notesdiscusses the obstacles faced by Tanzanian women andintroduces the work of a women's nongovernmentalorganization -- Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA).
