【 摘 要 】
In a data set for developing, andtransition economies, the author finds that privateconsumption per capita, based on national accounts, deviateson average from mean household income, or expenditure basedon national sample surveys. Growth rates also differsystematically, so that the ratio of the survey mean to thenational accounts mean, tends to fall over time. But thereare revealing exceptions to these general findings. Theaggregate difference in the levels is due more to incomesurveys, than to expenditure surveys. And there are strongregional effects; for example, the severe data problems inthe transition economies of Eastern Europe, and CentralAsia, means that there is negligible correlation in thatregion, between growth rates from national accounts, andthose from household surveys.
