The authors have prepared this paper asa companion to the Trade and Production database, whichcontains trade, production, and tariff data for 67industrial and developing countries at the industry levelfor 1976-99. The sector disaggregation in the databasefollows the International Standard Industrial Classification(ISIC), with data provided at the three-digit level (28industries) for all 67 countries and at the four-digit level(81 industries) for 24 of these countries. The productiondata are from the United Nations Industrial DevelopmentOrganization's Industrial Statistics Database at thethree- and four-digit level of ISIC. They include valueadded, total output, average wages, capital formation, number of employees, number of female employees, and numberof firms. The trade data are from the United NationsStatistics Division's Commodity Trade (Comtrade)database (through the World Bank's World IntegratedTrade Solution, or WITS, software) and include imports andexports. Data on mirror exports (reported by tradingpartners) were obtained using WITS. The trade data areaggregated by region and income group, as defined by theWorld Bank. A separate data set provides bilateral tradeflows (by partner) at the industry level. The data onaverage tariffs (most favored nation) are from the Trainsdatabase maintained by the United Nations Conference onTrade and Development and from the World TradeOrganization's Trade Policy Reviews and IntegratedDatabase. The database also provides an input-output tablefor each country using data from version 4 of the GlobalTrade Analysis Project (GTAP) database. The database isavailable on request on CD-ROM in a series of ASCII filesand Microsoft Excel worksheets. It is also available on theWeb at http://www.worldbank.org./research/trade.
