【 摘 要 】
Rising international bank financing todeveloping countries has fueled a debate on the behavior ofthese claims. The authors analyze claims from seven home(lender) countries on ten host (borrower) countries in LatinAmerica. They find that banks transmit shocks from theirhome countries and changes in their claims on othercountries spill over to individual hosts. However, lendinghas become less "indiscriminate" and moreresponsive to host conditions over time. Responsiveness tothe latter becomes less "pro-cyclical" as exposureincreases. Finally, foreign bank lending reacts more topositive than to negative host shocks and is notsignificantly curtailed during crises.
