【 摘 要 】
In 2000 the Argentine antitrustauthorities conducted a study of the state of competition inthe gasoline market. The study concludes with a set ofpolicy recommendations (that is, limits to verticalintegration and to the duration of contracts between oilcompanies and gasoline stations) which were subsequentlyimplemented by the Argentine government. This was one of therare occasions where the Argentine antitrust authoritiesexercised its advocacy role in a country that underwent anextensive process of deregulation and privatization.Serebrisky assesses the design and impact of the policiesrecommended by the Argentine antitrust authorities. Inparticular, he evaluates under which circumstances the newpolicies can reduce barriers to entry and foster competitionin the Argentine gasoline market.
