This note puts figures behind the notionof poverty resulting from war. Using simulation models, theauthor estimates the economic and social costs of the ElSalvadorian conflict. The calculations suggest that hadconflict been avoided, income per capita would have beenalmost the double of its actual value in 2002, the povertyrate lower by 15 percentage points, and MilleniumDevelopment Goals (MDG) indicators substantially better.
