The link between the documentation oflocal knowledge and the dissemination of useful localtechnologies to farmers is generally weak in the indigenoustechnology development process. To fill gap, the UluguruMountains Agricultural Development Project (UMADEP) has beenworking with local farmers to document their local knowledgerelated to Natural Crop Protection (NCP) and to spread thisknowledge to other farmers in the Uluguru Mountains usinginteresting and locally relevant education materials andfarmer-led training workshops. The approach used by UMADEPinvoloves the local communities throughout the process ofcollection of the knowledge, documentation, anddissemination. In order to effectively communicate themessage about NCP to communities UMADEP developed visualmaterials with simple instructions about the use ofbotanicals and with illustrations done in a comic bookstyle. The production of posters adopted the following stepsand approaches by: a) accessing the know-how of theinnovation, b) defining communication needs; c) targetingthe audience; d) visualization and production of artwork; e)field testing; and f) farmer-to-farmer dissemination.
