The report offers a description ofcurrent demographics, including density, populationstructure, and the components of population change. Itexplains projection procedures and provides results,including some alternative projections. The report assessesconsequences of population growth for key sectors of societysuch as education and employment and offers options formodifying future population trends, focusing on highfertility and the reasons behind it. A brief discussion ofthe health sector highlights problems of promoting familyplanning. Comparisons are made where appropriate with otherdeveloping countries, particularly within Southeast Asia.
