【 摘 要 】
This book aims to fill that gap by usingextensive and new firm-level data. It provides analternative, albeit complementary, approach to previousstudies of the determinants of the region's growthperformance, which are mostly based on cross-countryregressions using aggregate data. This book uses theinformation contained in enterprise surveys performed in 16Latin American and Caribbean countries, covering more than10,000 firms. These data are complemented with informationfrom household surveys, as well as from enterprise surveysperformed in other regions of the world. The analysis inthis volume covers topics that have also been stressed byother authors, such as the need to make progress in theareas of financial sector development, export promotion, andinnovation policy. The book's contribution in thisregard is to inform the corresponding policy debates withevidence on the effect of different policy environments onfirm performance. Overall this book will contribute toidentifying some of the underlying factors that are drivingLatin America's lackluster growth performance. Inparticular, objective is to improve our understanding of thepolicies that could have a larger influence on increasinggrowth and productivity in the region, by means of improvingthe environment in which firms invest and operate.
