【 摘 要 】
This report, Changing the Trajectory:education and training for young people in the DemocraticRepublic of Congo, provides an analysis of the currenteducational attainment and current school enrollment ofyouth in the 12 to 24 years age group and the educationalopportunities and training available to them in the formaland informal sectors. Using the results of a simulationmodel that incorporates enrollment in alternative educationprograms and the educational level attained by out-of-schoolpopulation, the report explains the various scenarios forthe development of the post-primary sector. The results ofeach scenario are evaluated according to their impact on thehuman capital accumulation of young people andsustainability of public expenditures. The report offersvarious options for rapidly raising the educationalachievements of young people who will enter the labor marketin the next two decades, including expanding opportunitiesfor alternative education and training for school children,extension of the primary cycle and the reorganization ofsecondary education and technical/vocational education toreduce early specialization. This study is of interest toother African countries, education professionals and staffdevelopment organizations struggling to grapple with thechallenge of expanding access to post-primary education in acontext of low primary achievement and limited resources.
