【 摘 要 】

This note describes some of the problemsfound in recruiting new doctors to the government healthcare system, drawing on the recent experiences in threecases: the Central Health Service (CHS), the Uttar Pradesh(UP) government health care system and Tamil Nadu governmenthealth care system. In comparing the different experiencesof recruitment in the three cases, the policy notehighlights institutional issues and the incentives builtinto an employment package as important for furtherconsideration in the aim to scale up the numbers ofgovernment doctors.
