【 摘 要 】

From 1990 to 1999 there were 700 energyprojects in developing countries involving privateparticipation. Investment in these projects totaled nearlyUS$190 billion, and foreign capital was a major source offunds. Global developers were the top ten sponsors ofprivate energy projects in developing countries. Theirprojects accounted for just over a third of totalinvestment. This Note surveys the trends by region, bycountry income level, and by type of project. It alsoexplores the consequences of the recent Asian financialcrisis for future investment in Asian energy markets.
