This report is a synthesis of threeevaluations carried out by the Independent Evaluation Groupand completed between July 2005 and February 2006, ondifferent aspects of Bank assistance to financial sectordevelopment in client countries. The three evaluationreports are World Bank Lending for Lines of Credit: AnIndependent Evaluation Group (IEG) Evaluation; IEG Review ofWorld Bank Assistance for Financial Sector Reform; andFinancial Sector Assessment Program: IEG Review of the JointWorld Bank and IMF Initiative. This paper seeks to draw outcommon themes and issues that have arisen from the threeevaluations, which reviewed major components of theBank's assistance during more than a decade to thefinancial sectors of client countries.
