The establishment of an AgribusinessInnovation Center (AIC) in Senegal takes advantage ofalready existing agriculture and agro-processing sectors anduses this to both identify and support a pipeline of growthenterprises that can be accelerated. The AIC initiativeseeks to identify growth entrepreneurs and these are definedas entrepreneurs that can create a significant number of jobopportunities while expanding markets through regional, national and export sales. Their impact is therefore muchdeeper than survivalist entrepreneurs who are in business tosupport their immediate family livelihood. Once identified, the AIC supports them to make best use of resources andmarket opportunities. In a phased approach, starting withthe Saint Louis region, the AIC is introducingpre-incubation support that can, depending on the initialoutcomes, develop into a future AIC hub being developed ineach of the regions. The Saint Louis Satellite AIC (sAIC)includes the following activities: 1) establishment andawareness creation; 2) introductory entrepreneurshipworkshops; 3) pre-incubation enterprise developmentprogramme; 4) assessment of regional business opportunitiesin the region and market opportunity matching with localenterprises; and 5) initiation of incubation for selected enterprises.
