【 摘 要 】
Agricultural development is an essentialengine of growth and poverty reduction, yet agriculturaldata suffer from poor quality and narrow sectoral focus. There are several reasons for this: (i) difficult-to-measuresmallholder agriculture is prevalent in poor countries, (ii)agricultural data are collected with little coordinationacross ministries of agriculture and national statisticsoffices, and (iii) poor analysis undermines the demand forhigh-quality data. This paper argues that initiatives likethe Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and RuralStatistics bode well for the future. Moving fromDevarajan's statistical "tragedy" toKiregyera's statistical "renaissance" willtake a continued long-term effort by individual countriesand development partners.
