The objective of this review ofresettlement policy and implementation in Brazil, is toidentify ongoing good practices, as well as areas forfurther improvement. It draws upon an assessment of theBrazilian legal and institutional framework related to landacquisition for projects in the public interest, a rapidevaluation of the resettlement programs in six projects(three projects that received Bank financing and threeimplemented without Bank support), interviews with expertsin this field and with people affected by projects, and aliterature review of national and international practices.The key findings and salient recommendations of this study,are summarized, and divided into the categories ofidentification and mitigation of impacts, institutionalresponsibility, costing and budgeting, meaningfulconsultations, grievance redress, monitoring and evaluation.are discussed below
