【 摘 要 】
Women's contributions to povertyreduction, economic growth, and private sector developmentare increasingly recognized globally. A growing amount ofresearch demonstrates the link between women'sempowerment and societal well-being. Yet research alsoindicates that woman's economic contributions continueto lag behind their achievements in health and education, and a variety of barriers still prevent women in many partsof the world from fully contributing to the economy. Womenin Vanuatu: analyzing challenges to economic participationis a step toward filling this gap, spurred by the growingrecognition in Vanuatu and the broader pacific region of theneed to better address gender inequalities. The publicationpresents a comprehensive analysis of institutional, legal, and regulatory barriers to women's full economicparticipation in Vanuatu and proposes measures to addressthese to ensure a level playing field for both women andmen. This work has been a collaborative effort betweenAustralian Agency for International Development (AusAID) andthe World Bank's Gender Group, in partnership withInternational Finance Corporation (IFC) and ForeignInvestment Advisory Service (FIAS). A number of thestudy's recommendations, which emerged fromconsultations with representatives of the government, theprivate sector, and civil society in Vanuatu, are beingaddressed in World Bank Group regional programming going forward.
