【 摘 要 】
This paper uses household panel datafrom rural Indonesia to examine the impact of road qualityon labor supply and wages. First, road projects are found toincrease transportation speed. Second, the empirical resultsfrom intra-village variations of household endowments andlabor market behavior show that an increase intransportation speed raised wages in nonagricultural andagricultural employment, and was associated with a declinein working time in agricultural employment, for householdswhose members are relatively educated. The findings supportpotential complementarity between road quality and education.
