The little data book on external debt, apocket edition of Global Development Finance 2012: externaldebt of developing countries contains statistical tables onthe external debt of the 129 countries that report publicand publicly guaranteed external debt under the debtorreporting system. It also includes tables of selected debtand resource flow statistics for individual reportingcountries as well as summary tables for regional and incomegroups. It is the culmination of a year-long process thatrequires extensive cooperation from people and organizationsaround the globe, national central banks, and ministries offinance, major multilateral organizations, and manydepartments of the World Bank. The little data book onexternal debt provides a quick reference for users of theGlobal Development Finance 2012 book, CD-ROM, and onlinedatabase. The general cutoff date for data is September2011. The little data book on external debt covers externaldebt stocks and flows, major economic aggregates, key debtratios, and the currency composition of long-term externaldebt for all countries reporting through the debtorreporting system. Terms used in tables are defined in theglossary. The economic aggregates presented in the tablesare prepared for the convenience of users. Although debtratios can provide useful information about developments indebt-servicing capacity, drawing valid conclusions from themrequires careful economic evaluation.
