【 摘 要 】
This paper studies the factorsassociated with outbound bilateral mergers and acquisitions(M&A) activity by firms located in emerging economies. The authors document recent trends in emerging marketM&A flows, which have risen dramatically over the pastdecade, and explore the factors that may have contributed tothis rise. They find distinct patterns for M&A dealsaccording to whether the acquisition targets are in otheremerging economies or advanced countries, and that thesedifferences can be attributed to differing theoreticalmotivations behind foreign direct investment. The authorsalso consider the implications of their model for futureM&A originating in the global South, in light of theglobal financial crisis of 2008.
