The Arab uprisings and the globalfinancial and economic slowdown have negatively impacted theJordanian economy and highlighted demands for a more leveleconomic playing field and equity in access to economic andsocial opportunities. Already challenged in providing jobsto the more than 60,000 youth who enter the labor marketannually, Jordan has seen unemployment rising. Youth andwomen were most affected, with unemployment, reaching 22.8percent and 22.3 percent, respectively. Moreover, regionaldisparities continue to pose additional challenges. Limitedprivate sector jobs are available in the outlyinggovernorates, where employment relies largely on the civilservice and other public sector jobs. At the same time, theprivate sector is hampered by difficulties in the businessenvironment and inadequate access to finance. Job creationand economic inclusion are key priorities for Jordan todaythese goals will be advanced by improving access to finance,enhancing competitiveness, and fostering sustainable,private sector-led growth.
